Pelican of Good-luck Carrying

This 2-meter high lantern is designed according to the traditional custom of "passing under the lamp base to pray for pregnancy". People can walk under the lantern to pray for fertility and a smooth pregnancy.

  2. That is such an interesting custom! We have something similar too, but it's a combination of pagan and Catholic rites: dancing in front of Our Lady of Manaoag (Mary, the mother of Jesus and Manaoag is a provincial town outside Metro Manila). Thank you for this very interesting post. I love the cute mural too!

I hope you've heard of CDP's theme days — we do them for the first of the month. The March theme is "Glass" and you can vote for the April theme now. We get two choices this time, thanks to Elaine. Please help spread the word too.

  3. I never knew that...then again I left Taiwan when I was a kid. I'll certainly learn more about Taiwan through your blog.
